Research

In 2004 we explored the possibilities to treat cervical cancer during pregnancy. We were stimulated to do so in order to treat a woman with this condition who wanted us to do everything we could in order to preserve the pregnancy. She successfully received chemotherapy during pregnancy and a healthy boy was born.

From the literature search, we learned that many unresolved questions remained in this field and an ambitious project was initiated. We did not obtain research grants until we published a letter to the editor in the Journal of Clinical Oncology on the outcome of 10 children after antenatal exposure to chemotherapy.

Fifteen years later, seven PhD studies on this topic are completed and six are ongoing.
