On Sunday 10 May 2015 we organised a Family Day for the families who are involved in our research project. We want to go beyond scientific research and clinical treatments. That is why we pay attention to our connection with the families and to their efforts to cope with the exceptional and emotional process of their pregnancy.
The Family Day makes it possible for the parents to share their experiences and to meet the doctors and the researchers outside of the hospital. A strong bond between the research team and the parents makes the scientific follow-up of the children’s development easier.
In the heart of the historical city of Bruges we enjoyed a sunny, entertaining, and relaxing day. Some parents met each other for the first time, others came to catch up. The children connected straight away. Beneficent moments for the families and a strong motivation for the entire research team!
A few words from the parents
“How can you describe the day you’d been looking forward to for quite some time, even though it reminds you of a difficult time in your life? For us it was a day to talk with people who understand exactly what we’ve been through. It always feels like coming home, like a family get-together! The warm and open atmosphere is impossible to describe.” Wendy, Kurt, Fien, and Lode
“The Family Day was an enriching and inspiring day. It was heart-warming to see all children play together so enthusiastically and to have a pleasant chat with the other parents. It is remarkable how openly we can speak with the other parents about the subject that we have in common: cancer during pregnancy. Fortunately we can now even laugh about it together. We recognize ourselves in each other’s stories. A big thank you to Professor Amant and his dream team for this beautiful event!” Isabelle and Anna-Mariétou
